Daughter of famed Ascadian adventurer Marcellus Valentinius, Carlotta's life has been a struggle to legitimize her family. From birth, she was destined to be married to a nobleman of the highest possible standing, likely in exchange for the considerable financial resources available to her father. Throughout her blossoming years, she was paraded in front of countless suitors of the Senatorial Class, but her various betrothals never quite made it to fruition. In each case, the cash-strapped nobles would eventually pull out of the deal due to social pressure.

Or at least that is how it seemed. Carlotta, a master of courtly double-speak, has sabotaged most every relationship she has had--one suitor might be too boorish, another too simple. She was raised the daughter of an accomplished man, but also of a mother whose prudent management her husband's riches made the difference between lasting wealth and swift ruin. She had imagined she would play a similar role, and was continually disappointed in the disposition of Senatorial men toward her would-be position.

As she aged, her father put more and more stock into her brother Wendelus, who could legitimately link his family with that of true nobility, if he only could sit still long enough to be wed (likely at great cost) to some Senator's daughter. Unfortunately for her father's ambitions, Wendelus rebelled against this direction in his life, and went as far as fleeing to Saillonne to seek avenues of his own adventure.

It now falls to Carlotta to salvage the future of the Valentinian family by returning her wayward brother, and perhaps by finally marrying into the nobility. Assuming, that is, she does not favor the taste of freedom she herself gains in the process.
